Cwmdu & Campsite: Family Run for 60 years
Our campsite is in the village of Cwmdu, which translates as “black valley”. We lie directly at the eastern edge of the Black Mountains, in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Aproxamtely halfway between Abergavenny, Brecon and the historic roman town of Talgarth.
Established in 1964 by Olive and Eric Farr, Cwmdu Campsite is a family-owned business run by Sarah Farr, husband Calvin Clark, and a team of wardens; Nienke (pronounced ‘Ninka’), Chris, Jackie, James, Sarah G and Mike.

Cwmdu Holiday Cottages
Book our two gorgeous holiday cottages, adjacent to the campsite, in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, Wales. All cottages are within walking distance of The Farmers Arms pub and our campsite shop and street food pop-up stalls. We’re family-friendly and dog friendly, and ideally situated for exploring the National Park.
Efail Isaf – sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms in a historical ‘Old Smithy’ cottage. Sofabed available in living room.
Efail Bach – sleeps 2 (plus an infant and/or child) in a one-bedroom cottage with scenic garden space (with cot and small sofabed).

Cwmdu Campsite in Wales is located centrally in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and we are ideally situated for camping in the Brecon Beacons. Additionally, the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains have a wealth of spectacular sights within walking distance. We have a wealth of walks from the gates and plenty of ideas and maps you can lend from our campsite shop. Our local area has mountain biking, fishing, horse riding, kayaking, canoeing, waterfalls, reservoirs, lakes, and so much more to do outdoors. If it’s raining when you come, we also have a wealth of heritage, historical, and indoor activities to advise; such as Big Pit, where you head down into a real coal mine, or the National Showcaves for Wales.
Our local award-winning town, Crickhowell is a 4-mile walk or 5-minute drive/taxi from the Campsite. The local area has numerous pubs, restaurants and shops. If you’re staying with us and need more information, you can speak with our wardens for additional hits and tips. They’ll give you all the best ideas and we lend out guided walks with maps and instructions so you have lots of inspiration for walks direct from the campsite.
Camping in the Brecon Beacons has never been easier, with our shop on-site selling everything from camping equipment, sandwiches, snacks, drinks and gifts, or grab breakfast, cakes and more from our daily coffee pop-up shop. We also have a play area for children, and dishwashing facilities with fridges, freezers and a microwave for guests to use. Our glamping, holiday cottages, and Fire and Ice spa is all adjacent to the campsite so your family or friends can all choose different options to suit them!
