Weekly Walk – Half the Horse Shoe

This weekly walk takes you up to the Mynydd Langors trig point. It is a shorter version of our big ‘Horse Shoe’ walk, from the campsite!

Half the Horse Shoe

A great circuit walk, with a steady climb to beautiful views of Pen Y Fan, Llangors Lake and the Black Mountains!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Strenuous Walk                  5.34  Miles            2.45 Hours                1,225 ft

1. Turn right out of the top of the campsite, and head towards the Farmer’s Arms Pub (which you’ll have passed when you arrived to the campsite) A
2. Cross the road, onto the lane 1 and head over the little bridge, and over the stile into the fields in front of you.
3. Follow your nose up towards the top left of the first field to go over the stile into the next one. Then follow the hedge, which is on your right, to the stile that then takes you onto the lane at point 2. Hop over the stile here and turn right to head up the lane.
4. Stay on this lane all the way up to point 3, where you will be amongst an old stone house on your right. Walk through past the house/ through the yard, and along the lane that now looks more like a track with a greenway in the middle of it.
5. Go through the gate that is over the stream here and head up the track towards the old, battered farm (which will be on your right) 4. Now the mountain begins!
6. Turn left and head up to go through the little gate, and then turn right to follow the green track up the hill to point 5. Once here, turn right and follow the upper path, which takes you to the trig point.
7. Point 6 is the trig point!
8. Then drop down the hill, and head towards the big hill 7 that takes you along, around and down to the village. Points 8,9,10 are to guide you along this stretch of hill, until you reach point 11, which is at the end ridge of the hill (this is Pentir Mountain). Once here, take the right-hand track down to the metal gate that leads you into the wooded path/track.
9. This wooded path/track then takes you down, back onto the lane that you walked up at the beginning of the walk B.
10. Turn onto the lane and retrace your steps, back past the pub and to the campsite!
