1. Walk to Table Mountain
Table Mountain is a flat-topped peak that provides stunning views over the surrounding countryside. The walk starts from the town of Crickhowell and is a moderate 4.5-mile (7.2 km) round trip.
2. Visit Tretower Court and Castle
Tretower Court and Castle is a well-preserved medieval castle and manor house located just 3 miles (4.8 km) from Crickhowell. It’s a great place to learn about Welsh history and architecture. We have a lovely walk to Tretower from Cwmdu campsite, which takes about 30 minutes.
3 . Explore the caves at Dan-yr-Ogof
Dan-yr-Ogof is a complex of limestone caves located about 30 minutes drive from Cwmdu. The caves are open to visitors and offer a unique underground experience. Alongside the caves, there are a range of attractions included in your ticket price, including: Award-winning Dinosaur park, Shire Horse Centre, Indoor & Outdoor play areas, Iron Age Village and a museum.
4. Visit the Big Pit National Coal Museum
The Big Pit National Coal Museum is located about 30 minutes drive from Cwmdu and is a fascinating insight into the coal mining industry that once dominated the area.
5. Walk the Four Waterfalls Trail
The Four Waterfalls Trail is a 4.5-mile (7.2 km) trail that takes in some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons. The trail is located about a 45 minute drive from Cwmdu.
6. Take a steam train ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway
The Brecon Mountain Railway is a narrow-gauge steam railway that runs through the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. The railway is located about a 30 minute drive from Cwmdu.
7. Visit the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal
The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is a beautiful waterway that runs through the heart of the Brecon Beacons. You can take a leisurely canal boat ride or enjoy a walk along the towpath.
8. Hike Pen y Fan
Pen y Fan is the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons and a popular hiking destination. The most popular route starts from the car park at Pont ar Daf, about 40 minutes drive from Cwmdu. 9. Explore the historic town of Abergavenny
Abergavenny is a picturesque market town located just 10 miles (16 km) from Crickhowell. It has a rich history and plenty of attractions, including the Abergavenny Castle and the St Mary’s Priory Church.
10. Visit the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre
The Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre is located just outside the town of Brecon and is a great place to learn about the national park and plan your visit. The centre has interactive exhibits, a gift shop, and a café.

4* Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons, 4 miles from Crickhowell and all within 50 yards of Cwmdu Campsite.
We have 2 cosy cottages available to book:
- Efail Isaf – ‘Old Smithy’ – Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Cosy cottage with log burner and picturesque garden and panoramic views of the National Park. Infant facilities are available.
- Efail Bach – ‘Little Smithy’ – One-bed cottage with large shower and separate large bath. Fantastic views from the bedroom, living room and garden. BBQ included. Infant facilities are available.
