1. Sgwd yr Eira – The “Walk-Behind” Waterfall
Distance from Cwmdu Campsite: 50 minutes by car
Walk Difficulty: Moderate | 4-mile circular
Name Meaning: “Fall of Snow”
Sgwd yr Eira is arguably the most famous waterfall in the Brecon Beacons, and for good reason: you can walk right behind the cascading water! The trail winds through dense woodland and forms part of the four waterfalls trail.
Top Tip: Wear waterproof boots – the spray is impressive, and the rocks are slippery!
2. Blaen y Glyn Waterfalls – A Peaceful Cascade Haven
Distance from Cwmdu Campsite: 20 minutes
Walk Difficulty: Easy to moderate | Up to 3 miles
Ideal for: Families, photographers, and quiet walkers
Tucked away in a secluded forest near the Taf Fechan valley, this series of smaller waterfalls creates a peaceful atmosphere and an excellent photo opportunity. The walk is gentle, making it ideal for families with children. We have a route map available to borrow in our shop that takes you on a beautiful woodland walk past this run of waterfalls.
Photography Tip: Visit in the late afternoon for golden light through the trees.
️ 3. Pwll y Wrach – The Witch’s Pool, Talgarth
Distance from Cwmdu Campsite: 20 minutes
Walk Difficulty: Easy | Woodland loop
Myth Factor: High!
A short, enchanting walk through ancient woodland leads you to a hidden pool with a waterfall, steeped in Welsh folklore. Legend has it this was once a site for witch trials. Whether or not that’s true, the walk is magical — and often far quieter than the larger tourist spots.
Did You Know? “Pwll y Wrach” translates to “The Witch’s Pool” — and the woods are said to be haunted!
4. Henrhyd Falls – The Tallest in South Wales
Distance from Cwmdu Campsite: 1 hour
Walk Difficulty: Moderate | 1.5-mile round trip
Hollywood Fame: Featured in The Dark Knight Rises
At 90 feet tall, Henrhyd Falls is the highest in the region and featured as the entrance to Batman’s Batcave in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises. The walk down into the gorge follows a boardwalk that crisscrosses over the river, and you can walk behind the falls for that cinematic thrill.

4* Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons, 4 miles from Crickhowell and all within 50 yards of Cwmdu Campsite.
We have 2 cosy cottages available to book:
- Efail Isaf – ‘Old Smithy’ – Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Cosy cottage with log burner and picturesque garden and panoramic views of the National Park. Infant facilities are available.
- Efail Bach – ‘Little Smithy’ – One-bed cottage with large shower and separate large bath. Fantastic views from the bedroom, living room and garden. BBQ included. Infant facilities are available.
