We all know that the Welsh weather can sometimes turn on us very quickly, and although our valley is beautiful in any weather, some rainy-day activities, as a backup, could be very handy!
Big Pit Museum
Probably one of the best days out for any people of any age! Here you can go deep underground and experience at firsthand what life was like for the coal miners and the pit ponies
- Be taken down a 90 meter shaft in a miners cage
- Get guided around the underground workings by an ex-collier
- 25 minute drive from the campsite
National Showcaves Centre for Wales
Here you can go deep underground and experience the mystical underground world of caving (don’t worry, it’s all lit and has easy walking paths!)
- 3 incredible caves to walk through. Accessible for all ages and disabilities.
- Dinosaur park with more than 200 life-sized dinosaurs
- Shire Horse Centre & Farm
- Iron Age Museum
- Cafe and Gift Shop on site
Talybont Waterfalls:Â
Although this may not seem the greatest idea in the rain, there is something quite beautiful about being around the waterfalls in the rain! Plus, not many people will head there if it’s a wet day. Some would see it as total bliss. We have a walking roue available to borrow from our reception.

- 20 minute-drive away
- Sign posted walk, or just follow the sound of the waterfalls!

Tretower Court & Castle
One of finest Medieval mansion in Wales, just a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk from the campsite!
- Has featured in many films and TV programmes and hosted many renowned actors such as Jonny Depp
- A 900-year span of History
- Was a magnet for medieval Welsh poets
- Hosts school visits
- Car park, accessible toilets, bike storage, garden, picnic table available
- Dogs welcome
Local swimming pools
Gym and leisure facilities including swimming pool, jacuzi and steam room. Aprox 5 mins drive from campsite.

HOLIDAY COTTAGES INFORMATION
4* Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons, 4 miles from Crickhowell and all within 50 yards of Cwmdu Campsite.
We have 2 cosy cottages available to book:
- Efail Isaf – ‘Old Smithy’ – Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Cosy cottage with log burner and picturesque garden and panoramic views of the National Park. Infant facilities are available.
- Efail Bach – ‘Little Smithy’ – One-bed cottage with large shower and separate large bath. Fantastic views from the bedroom, living room and garden. BBQ included. Infant facilities are available.
