Get to know our local area! Here, you will find information about our beautiful, local market town Brecon. Here lies the famous Pen Y Fan, along with many other gorgeous attractions and fun activities.
Location
Brecon is the third largest town in Powys and lies north of the Brecon Beacons mountain range on the river Usk.
Driving: Brecon is just a 20-minute drive from Cwmdu Campsite and there is ample parking within and around the town
Public Transport: You can catch the X43 bus from Crickhowell or Bwlch, which regularly runs to Brecon
Cycling: Road cyclists often cycle the A40 to Brecon
Walking: Unfortunately, walking to Brecon would be too far, however, given that the town lies within the Beacons, you will not be short of walks once you get there!
Attractions & Activities
Brecon is spoilt with many beautiful attractions, here are just a few:
Pen Y Fan: The highest peak in South Wales and deservedly popular with walkers! A well-trodden path leads you to a breathtaking view of the surrounding peaks and area. View the walk here!
Y Gaer- Museum, Art Gallery and Library : A beautifully refurbished and developed building in the heart of Brecon. Here lies a space for poetry, music, reading, art, and learning!
Brecon Cathedral : A Grade I listed building that hosts rich Welsh history. In recent years, some of the buildings in the cathedral close have been converted into a diocesan centre, a heritage centre and exhibition, as well as a shop and “The Hours” restaurant.
Brecon Canal: The end point of the Brecon-Monmouthsire canal. Here you can hire a boat for the day, or take a gentle walk or cycle along the pass. The canal runs beside the river Usk, making a perfect day out for a wild swim if you fancy!
Alpaca My Boots : A great day out where you can walk an alpaca in the Brecon hills! Why not try something new?!
Eat & Drink
Brecon has a nice selection of bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants where you can get your hands on some good post-activity grub! Here are our favourites:
The Tap: A welcoming, friendly ale and pie house situated in the heart of Brecon. They have a great menu of homecooked food including their famous tap pies and it’s the place to find amazing local real ale on tap, craft beers, and International keg beers. They also have a great outdoor drinking area, live music, and are dog friendly.
Hills Brecon: The most incredible burgers. Hills is just a 5-minute drive outside of Brecon and they have an extensive range of burgers, fries, loaded fries and more.
Felin Fach Griffin: A beautiful Welsh pub, with slightly finer dining! Here is the place to enjoy the country pub experience, with a cold drink in the beer garden or by their wood burner, on a colder day.
Hop In Beer & Gin: Opened in 2020 and is dog-friendly bar bringing continental-style drinking. They are a unique and trendy looking bar, stocking beer from the most progressive breweries in the UK.
Upcoming Events
Brecon Baroque Festival: Brecon Baroque Festival was established by Rachel Podger in 2006. Each October Rachel gathers together some of the world’s leading period musicians for a long weekend of performances and workshops in Brecon Cathedral and Theatr Brycheiniog, bookended by walks and talks in and around Brecon!

HOLIDAY COTTAGES INFORMATION
We now have 4-holiday cottages you can book throughout the year!
Ty Ffynon Loft is a newly renovated loft apartment next door to Cwmdu Campsite in Wales. It offers stunning views from the garden, an easy walk to our local pub, and is dog-friendly. Perfect for solo travelers or couples.
Efail Bach is a one-bedroom cottage, with stunning views from the garden. A large comfortable bathroom with a separate bath, and a large shower. Located right next to the campsite if you have family camping.
Efail Isaf is a three-bedroom cottage that sleeps 6 in a quaint old-blacksmiths house (Old Smithy). This house has a wonderful garden for a family BBQ or sunbathing (we do some lovely weather through the summer!). It also has a log burner for cosy nights in front of the fire.
