We are spoilt for choice for walks at Cwmdu campsite, as we are situated right on the Beacons Way in the heart of the Black Mountains. One of our awesome walks takes you directly from the campsite on a circular route of The Three Pens: ‘Pen Gloch-y-pibwr’ (675m), ‘Pen Allt-mawr’ (720m) & ‘Pen Cerrig-calch’ (711m). 
The Three Pens
Pen Allt-mawr is a 720 metres (2,359 ft) subsidiary summit of Waun Fach and the third highest peak in the Black Mountain Range. Pen Allt-mawr’s close neighbour, Pen Caerrig-Calch, is to the south, and 1 km to the south west of Pen Allt-mawr’s summit is Pen Gloch-y-pibwr. There are several Bronze Age cairns along the western edge of the plateau to the south of Pen Allt-mawr.
This stunning circular walk takes approximately 4.5 hours and starts and finishes at Cwmdu campsite. Be prepared for some windy weather alongside breathtaking views of Pen y Fan, Sugar Loaf and the Dragon’s Back.

4* Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons, 4 miles from Crickhowell and all within 50 yards of Cwmdu Campsite.
We have 2 cosy cottages available to book:
- Efail Isaf – ‘Old Smithy’ – Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Cosy cottage with log burner and picturesque garden and panoramic views of the National Park. Infant facilities are available.
- Efail Bach – ‘Little Smithy’ – One-bed cottage with large shower and separate large bath. Fantastic views from the bedroom, living room and garden. BBQ included. Infant facilities are available.
