Discover the Welsh Academy of Art: Creative Courses Just Steps from Cwmdu Campsite
Art, Inspiration, and Tranquillity in the Brecon Beacons
One of the most inspiring things about staying at Cwmdu Campsite is being surrounded by creativity, culture, and natural beauty. Right next door, you’ll find a hidden gem that captures all three.
Our neighbours at the Welsh Academy of Art offer a wonderful selection of art courses for all abilities. These are set against the peaceful backdrop of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned artist, this local academy provides the perfect opportunity. It allows you to slow down, learn something new, and connect with your creative side.
Learn from Expert Artists
This weekend, the Academy is hosting its highly regarded Fundamentals of Oil Painting course. It is led by Lee Wright, a talented artist and tutor known for his friendly, encouraging teaching style. Participants learn essential techniques in oil painting. These range from mixing and blending colours to capturing light, texture, and emotion on canvas.
No prior experience is needed; Lee’s approach makes complex techniques feel simple and achievable. You’ll leave not only with new skills but also with your own piece of artwork to take home.
Next month, the Academy is offering two more popular workshops — The Fundamentals of Colour and The Fundamentals of Drawing. These immersive classes provide a deep understanding of composition, colour harmony, and observational drawing. They are valuable skills for any artist or creative enthusiast.
A Creative Experience for Every Visitor
Whether you’re visiting the Brecon Beacons for a weekend break or an extended stay at Cwmdu Campsite, joining a course at the Welsh Academy of Art is a fantastic way to make your trip even more memorable.
Each course takes place in a calm, light-filled studio surrounded by rolling Welsh hills — a setting that naturally inspires creativity. The classes are small and friendly, ensuring plenty of one-on-one guidance and time to explore your own artistic process.
Tip: Courses often fill up quickly, so early booking is recommended. If you’re planning a future stay at the campsite, check the Academy’s website to see what classes coincide with your visit.
