Storm Dennis 2020

Storm Dennis 2020 has impacted the local area heavily this weekend. Firstly we the team at Cwmdu Campsite would like to send our thoughts to everyone affected by the flood water. Our local town of Crickhowell has been hit particularly hard. The community have pulled together and done a sterling job of looking after residents without homes or cars. Emergency services have been fantastic in rescuing people stranded in cars, flooded houses and over-turned caravans (on other local sites).

Impact at Cwmdu Campsite

Thankfully, all the caravans at Cwmdu Campsite have escaped damage and are all still sited safely. We are very lucky to have local residentsStorm Dennis 2020 such as Kevin Marshall who came to the rescue. He ensured the brook water continued to flow safely away from all our seasonal caravans. Unfortunately, our facilities didn’t escape entirely unscathed. We have quite a clean up job on our gents toilet block following some water and silt coming inside.

The roads surrounding Crickhowell are still closed with many other local areas also facing road closures following the floods. The red weather warning previously in place in the area has now been reduced to amber. Local residents are being encouraged to remain indoors for their safety. Crickhowell bridge has also been damaged and we are waiting to hear whether it will be allowed to open again. It’s possible the bridge will open tomorrow once it has been assessed by engineers.

As the storm passes through and the clean up begins. We reassure our campers that we will be open as usual from the 27th March and we’re still taking bookings for Easter. (Take note we’re booking up fast for the Easter weekend).
