Hay-on-Wye is known as the first book town in the world. Nestled alongside the beautiful river Wye and boasting the recently restored Hay Castle, the town is well worth a visit. Aside from the many bookshops, independent retailers and tasty tearooms, Hay is also world-renowned for its festivals. At only a 30 minute drive from Cwmdu campsite, we would definitely recommend a visit.

Visit the largest festival of philosophy and music in the world at HowTheLightGetsInHay 2025. Set amongst the stunning Black Mountains, you will find trailblazing speakers, debates and comedy. With over 350 performers, 300 events and 12 stages there is plenty to keep you busy.

Another excellent festival in Hay is the annual Hay festival of Literature & Arts has been described as the “Woodstock of the Mind”. HOLIDAY COTTAGES INFORMATION
4* Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons, 4 miles from Crickhowell and all within 50 yards of Cwmdu Campsite.
We have 4 cosy cottages available to book:
- Efail Isaf – ‘Old Smithy’ – Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Cosy cottage with log burner and picturesque garden and panoramic views of the National Park. Infant facilities are available.
- Efail Bach – ‘Little Smithy’ – One-bed cottage with large shower and separate large bath. Fantastic views from the bedroom, living room and garden. BBQ included. Infant facilities are available.
- The Hay Loft – Newly refurbished couples retreat. Peaceful, scenic views, private garden.
- Ty Ffynon – Beautifully decorated, two-bedroom house with wonderful views, log burner and free-standing bath in the main bedroom.

Guests can visit in many ways, camp or Glamp at Cwmdu Campsite, stay in one of our four Holiday Cottages, or stop by for an independent session.
