During our recent day out, we visited the incredible Owl Sanctuary in Ebbw Vale, and it truly exceeded expectations. This hidden Welsh gem rescues, rehabilitates, and cares for a wide variety of owls and birds of prey, offering visitors a rare opportunity to see these magnificent creatures up close.
Meet the Birds and Their Rescuers
The Owl Sanctuary is home to dozens of rescued birds — from tiny barn owls to majestic eagles. Many of these birds have been saved from injury or neglect and now enjoy a safe, caring environment.
Visitors can even hold some of the birds under the guidance of trained volunteers, making it an unforgettable hands-on experience for both children and adults. It’s a fantastic way to learn about bird conservation and Welsh wildlife in a friendly, family-focused setting.

4* Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons, 4 miles from Crickhowell and all within 50 yards of Cwmdu Campsite.
We have 2 cosy cottages available to book:
- Efail Isaf – ‘Old Smithy’ – Sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Cosy cottage with log burner and picturesque garden, and panoramic views of the National Park. Infant facilities are available.
- Efail Bach – ‘Little Smithy’ – One-bed cottage with large shower and separate large bath. Fantastic views from the bedroom, living room and garden. BBQ included. Infant facilities are available.
