Cwmdu campsite sits directly on The Beacons Way, an iconic and stunning 99 mile walk which runs the length of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Although it is a challenging route, it is well within the reaches of a fit and competent hill walker. Demanding uphill climbs, beautiful valleys and undulating ridges give spectacular views of the National Park, its varied landscapes and its wildlife. ![]()
Cwmdu to Crickhowell
A fantastic way to experience the beauty of a section of The Beacons Way is to walk directly from Cwmdu campsite to Crickhowell. The route starts by leading you up towards Pen Gloch Y Pibwr. Although there are some steep inclines there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy relatively flat trails leading you around the edge of Pen Cerrig-calch.
Incredible Views
Along the route you will pass the castle of Tretower, see the beautiful river Usk from above and if you are lucky you may witness a cloud inversion or dragon’s breath. On clear days there is an outstanding few of the Brecon Beacons with the distinctive outline of Pen y Fan. As you round the trail to look down on the beautiful town of Crickhowell you will be able to see Table Mountain and beyond that Sugar Loaf Mountain.
